In Japan, the new school year starts in April and children joining youchien (kindergarten), private schools, and high schools would be bringing packed lunches from home. Unlike some other countries where packed lunch means peanut butter and jelly sandwich, apple and a bag of potato chips, the Japanese Obento must be a colorful, nutritious and tasty assortment of dishes packed in a small box.
My new obento course will go through the basics of making a Japanese style obento box including some important rules that must be followed during the summer climate. We will also be tasting some of the popular ready-made fozen obento fillers that would be a great help in filling the obento box. Please choose from the following 2 courses :
