About Wagashi

Welcome to the Simply Oishii Wagashi School. Wagashi is a term for Japanese-style confections in general. Wa(和)meaning Japan and Kashi(菓子)meaning Sweets in Japanese. Out of the various kinds of wagashi, my school focuses on the following categories:

Nerikiri Wagashi (練り切り和菓子)
- Unbaked premium confections,
Mizugashi(水菓子)- Confections made with Jellying Agents such as Kanten Agar,
Higashi(干菓子)&Hannamagashi(半生菓子)- Confections which have a low water content that makes it last longer
Anflower - A modern confections made by piping out flowers made with An (Sweet Bean Paste)

These sweets are traditionally served with matcha green tea during the tea ceremony. The elaborate figure represents the season that it is served and may vary monthly.
Please choose from a variety of courses offered to you according to your needs.

Shopping For Ingredients and Tools

Here are links to the shops you can buy the wagashi tools online and offline. Most shops do not ship internationally but hope you get the idea. If you are in Japan, make sure to visit Kappa-bashi Shopping Street as this will be the only place in Tokyo where you can find a full range of wagashi making tools.
