Online classes

Simply Oishii Wagashi School offers a variety of one-day classes online. Please choose a course that suits you and you will learn how to make Japanese sweets from the comfort of your kitchen.

Online Nerikiri Wagashi Class - Japanese traditional sweets.

This class is for anyone who would like to experience the art of wagashi-making, Class will begin with making the nerikiri dough made from sweet white bean paste, sugar and mochi powder, then proceed to coloring and shaping the dough to make 2 pieces of wagashi.  
Please book this class only if you can buy or make or buy white bean paste, mochiko (glutinous rice flour or sweet rice flour) .

Online Mochi Class

This class is for anyone who would like to learn how to make mochi. You will learn how to handle the sticky mochi and create popular mochi dishes.
Menu
  • Strawberry Daifuku (Mochi with filling) - 
  • Mochi Ice Cream. 
  •  Three color dango (Mochi Balls on skewers) ​

Ingredients that you will have to prepare yourself:
  1. Mochiko or Shiratamako (Glutinous Rice Flour),
  2. Sugar
  3. Red or White bean paste. You can make white bean paste by watching my tutorial video.
  4.  Ice Cream of your choice.
  5. Red and Green Food Coloring (or Matcha Powder).​

Online Mizugashi(水菓子) Class

In this class we will be using kanten agar to make mizugashi (water confections) called Kingyokukan(錦玉羹) , which is a traditional jelly sweet using a firming agent called kanten(寒天). You can choose the motif you would like to use. (Sakura, Autumn Leaf, Goldfish)

You will learn:
  1. How to make Yokan(羊羹)- for Autumn Motif and Spring)
  2. How to make Kingyokukan(錦玉羹)
  3. How to color and cut shapes out from the Yokan
  4. How to make Nerikiri Dough and shape them (Summer only)
  5. How to Layer the Kingyokukan.

Ingredients you need :
  • Kanten (寒天)powder
  • Sugar
  • Food Coloring & Matcha powder
  • White Bean Paste
  • Glutinous Rice Flour (for Summer only)
Class Fee: 9000 yen per device (up to 2 people) 4500 yen for each additional participant. ​

Hasamigiku Class

Choose from 4 hour intensive course and 2 hour regular course.

how to book

1. Request an online class through the contact form. Classes can be conducted from 10 am to 11 pm start time, (JST/UTC+9)   [To convert this time to your local time zone click here]. Please indicate your request time in Tokyo Time Zone (not your local time zone). 
2. Once the date is confirmed, you will be invoiced through Paypal. Upon payment, you will receive a link for the class as well as the recipe and shopping list. Please source the ingredients before the class date. 
3. On the date of the class, please access the link on the designated time and take the lesson. (You can enter the class 10 minutes before the time) You will need a PC, laptop, smartphone tablet, with your audio and video turn on to participate. 

=Notice=
  • If you prefer to just watch (over a glass of wine or beer) that's also OK. You can ask as much questions as you like during the cooking session.
  • If you are taking the class on your smartphone, please download the Zoom App before the class.
  • You will need to pay for each participating person. (There is no charge for observers)

-Conditions-​
  • There will be no refund once you have paid. You may reschedule to another date if you cannot make it to class. If you would like to reschedule, please notify me at least 48 hour before the class.
  • If you are more than 30 minutes late on the day, your booking will be cancelled with no refund. If you would like to take the same class, please book again.
  • If the class is cancelled due to the instructor's illness or the failure of internet connection, you have the option to reschedule the class or cancel the class with full refund. 
  • If you are not happy with the cooking experience, I am happy to do the same class at your convenient time at no charge.
