Day Trip to Nokogiri Mountain

Our summer holiday began with a day trip to Nokogiri Mountain, located along the Tokyo Bay off the Boso Peninsula of Chiba, it is a perfect place to go hiking on a day trip. We went by car using the Aqua Line from Kawasaki which only takes about an hour from Meguro if there is no traffic . This place is easily accessible from Tokyo and Kanagawa using trains and ferries as it is closed to the Train Station and the Ferry Terminal.

Another reason this place is great is that it is perfect for all ages or experience. You can walk from the foot of the mountain all the way to the top if you really want a workout or you can take the cable car if you have small children. If you are going by car, you can ride your car to the top of the mountain and park there.

We were planning on hiking from the foot of the mountain, but couldn't find a parking spot as they were having the local festival. This turned out just fine as even if we parked on the top of the mountain, we still good exercise going down the mountain to see the big Buddha and up again to the top to see the view. 

The weather was great and the view from the lookout called Jigoku Nozoki ("View of Hell") was breathtaking. After a day of hiking, we stopped by the Hot Springs by the bay (Umibe no Yu) and had lunch at Kanaya(a huge restaurant where you can try all sorts of local seafood)

I advise you to start back early as the traffic going back to Tokyo thru the Aqua Line can get pretty nasty.
